Cutting tool specialist Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal, which is appearing on Stand 5458, Hall 5 at MACH 2014 (Birmingham NEC, 7-11 April) has committed to support and co-sponsor the MTA's activities in the exhibition's Education and Training Zone.

"Each of our technical staff has either studied at university or served an engineering apprenticeship, which we regard as fundamental steps for core competence and understanding the basics of industry," says Sumitomo's general manager Trevor Tolley. "From this bedrock, our engineers then apply and utilise technology to build a fascinating professional career that is both challenging and ever-changing." Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal's engineers are said to have considerable expertise in the company's range of tooling that includes indexable inserts and solid tools in tungsten carbide, cermet, silicon nitride, cubic boron nitride and polycrystalline cubic boron nitride. "As a company, Sumitomo has to be focused on providing solutions which are totally based on engineering experience," says Mr Tolley. "As a result, we are keen to sponsor the MTA in its goal to not only attract future engineers, but also to help provide the ideal shop window at MACH where young people can gain an appreciation of what can be achieved in this industry."
