Sodick Europe to move to new, larger Midlands HQ in 2019; manufacturing a possibility

EDM distributor Sodick Europe is to create a new, architect-designed HQ in the Midlands, following continuing sales success, with manufacturing a potential future activity.

The new facility, which will have easy access to the M40 and the wider Midlands motorway network, is due to open in mid-2019 and will be the central focus for the company’s network of dealers across Europe.

Sodick Europe, established 15 years ago as the European Division of Japanese multi-billion yen corporation Sodick Co, now has a turnover of £45 million and manages 17 distributors serving more than 35 countries - reaching as far as Turkey and Russia.

The new 45,000 sq ft HQ underscores the position of the UK as the heart of Sodick’s European organisation and will act as operational centre for sales, service and market support. Initially employing 50 staff, there are plans to triple that number within a couple of years. The scale and flexibility of the new building provide scope for future development, including, potentially, a manufacturing capability.

Says Peter Capp, CEO Sodick Europe: “By making this major investment, Sodick is demonstrating its belief in the UK as a key location in Europe and that, with or without Brexit, the UK, and particularly the Midlands, remains at the heart of advanced manufacturing.”
