SGS Carbide Tool's managing director, Alan Pearce, explained: "The MTC takes innovative ideas and converts them into viable processes that can be transferred into industry and start to regenerate UK manufacturing, which we are proud to be associated with. We are joining a membership that pushes the boundaries of innovation through testing the functional applications of equipment in a practical environment." Clive Hickman, chief executive of the Manufacturing Technology Centre, said: "We are proud to welcome SGS as members of the MTC. As leaders in the field of solid carbide cutting tool technology, SGS shares MTC's enthusiasm for challenging the boundaries of manufacturing and our passion for innovation. I look forward to what we will achieve in partnership." Alan Pearce concluded: "Being a partner of the MTC will bring numerous benefits to the design and development team at SGS, including the opportunity to apply new cutting, drilling and finishing tools and coating technologies, as well as machining strategies, in conjunction with end users and university specialists." Opened in July 2011, the MTC represents a £40.5 million publicly funded investment and has been developed in response to the government's manufacturing strategy. Based at Ansty Business Park, Coventry, it has been established to prove innovative manufacturing processes and technologies in an agile environment in partnership with industry, academia and other institutions and professional associations.
