Sandvik Coromant Advanced Apprentices Ninetta Cataldo and Harrison Waters are joint winners of the 'Outstanding First Year Apprentice' awarded by the EEF Apprentice & Skills Centre in Tyseley.

Said Barry Jones, recruitment and mentoring officer, EEF Apprentice and Skills Technology Centre. "It has been very difficult to choose from this year's entries, so, instead of selecting just one recipient, we decided for a joint award when we chose Nina and Harrison. "Nina (left) has demonstrated good engineering skills and knowledge, with growing confidence, excelling in everything she did. Harrison (right), who started his apprenticeship program much later than the main group, not only progressed at an amazing pace, he also completed sections ahead of others, practically and academically, to a very high standard. Nina's and Harrison's enthusiasm and dedication for engineering will no doubt lead them into a successful, bright future." Both winners will continue with a three-year advanced engineering apprenticeship at Sandvik Coromant, Halesowen, UK. This course will include a two-year, in-house technical and commercial training, coupled with further coursework at the EEF. In their graduating year, both will study towards a foundation degree and receive specialist training in a department of their choice at Sandvik Coromant.
