Rofin has acquired Lasag from the Swatch Group. Based in Thun, Switzerland, Lasag has offices in the USA, Germany and Japan. The company will become part of the Rofin micro group and further extend Rofin's global customer base.

Rofin's objective with this acquisition is to emerge as the leader within the micro machining laser market. Lasag's business will continue as usual, offering the company's well-established solid-state lasers and manufacturing solutions together with its technical expertise. In the meantime Rofin will begin to promote the sales of Lasag products through its existing sales channels with a special emphasis on the medical device market. Founded in 1974, Lasag AG is one of the original laser companies with more than 30 years of experience in the development and manufacturing of industrial solid-state lasers. Lasag markets and sells its laser products for fine cutting, spot welding, drilling and scribing applications to the medical device, automotive, electronic and aerospace industries. The company has approximately 80 employees worldwide and a global sales volume in the range of $25 to 30 million. With 3,000 lasers installed at 1,500 customers in over 50 countries. Lasag's core competencies lie in the development of solid-state laser sources and customised beam delivery solutions, especially high quality laser processing heads. Its range of laser sources encompasses lamp-pumped Nd:YAG lasers and diode-pumped fiber lasers. For Lasag, the acquisition presents great potential to expand its business areas through the worldwide sales channels of the Rofin group, especially in Asia where the market coverage of the local Rofin-Baasel entities will guarantee increased market share. Since Lasag has its own office in the US there are no significant changes anticipated in the existing organisation and sales structure.
