The Peter Wolters Group out of Rendsburg, Germany, has announced that it will restructure its Swiss Voumard operations and integrate the product line's R&D, production, logistics and administration into Peter Wolters' German Headquarters facility in Rendsburg, near Hamburg.

Peter Wolters boasts over 200 years in business supplying high-precision grinding, lapping, polishing and deburring products for processing metal, glass, ceramics and plastics. "With this restructuring of our production and R&D sites we are addressing the immense and ongoing cost pressure in the worldwide machine tool markets, which is strongly effecting our Voumard range as well. With this restructuring we will be able to realise extensive synergies in the product cost and overhead areas, which will benefit through the combination with other major products we manufacture in our main German facility", explains Kay Petersen, Peter Wolters' CEO. "Markets for our products are shifting to Asia and local competitors play a strong role there. That's why synergy efforts in product manufacturing and intelligent, worldwide sourcing and outsourcing are such important factors for western manufacturers today. Another reason for our restructuring decision is the much enhanced ability for R&D alignment between the products. We have already seen the benefit of these types of synergies with the recent successful integration of our newly acquired and very technically advanced MICRON line from its original US facility into our main operations in Rendsburg". The sales organisation for the Voumard product line had already been successfully integrated into the worldwide-acting Peter Wolters sales organisation in 2005, expanding the international presence of Voumard products and solutions well beyond its historically European customer base.
