Coventry-based Agie Charmilles Ltd has appointed Martin Spencer as the company's new managing director.

He took over the top position at Agie Charmilles as of 1 September 2009, replacing previous managing director Steve Sylvester, who is leaving the company to take up a senior management position at SMP Playgrounds Ltd. Martin Spencer has worked for the GF AgieCharmilles organisation, in a variety of different senior and managerial positions, for over 20 years. He has extensive experience in applications, sales, service and support, and prior to his appointment as the new managing director was employed as operations director. "The main challenge facing Agie Charmilles in today's economic climate is to continue to provide the quality, choice and value that customers expect from us…and to ensure that we are both effective and efficient in the delivery of all of our services," Mr Spencer exlained. "Over the next few months, we will be introducing into the UK and Ireland, new high-performance wire and spark erosion machines, and 3- and 5-axis machining centres…many of which will be being launched at the forthcoming EMO 09 exhibition. "The availability of these new machines, in conjunction with a strategic review and revamp of our after-sales and service provision, will further consolidate our market-leader position as a provider of 'best-in-class' advanced technology solutions to customers."
