Mussett Engineering sees oil and gas boom

Mussett Engineering, Loddon, Norfolk received orders worth more than £1million during April, making recent weeks some of the busiest the company has known.

The majority of the work for the 120-employee firm is repeat orders for machined components for customers in the oil and gas industry, with parts due to be shipped to clients across the world, including Russia, Canada, Brazil, Africa and the South China Sea. New orders have also been received for clients in the aerospace, automotive and defence industries. "'Our order book – particularly for oil and gas clients – is as busy as it has ever been," explained managing director Gordon Mussett. "The past weeks have been extremely busy and we've been working closely with our clients on various projects and our hard work is now starting to pay off. "Demand for fuel in China, India and South America is increasing all the time and that means that demand for specialist high tolerance components is also growing. Our experience working on parts for deep water rigs means we're able to produce and test parts to meet these specifications." As well as handling new orders, the new 12,000 sq ft aerospace production area at Lodden is also now up and running. Mr Mussett added: "2012 has started well for us and we look likely to be very busy into the next few months as well." Orders for motorsport clients are also keeping the firms composites engineers busy. The Formula Two season got under way at Silverstone earlier in April and parts for all the cars on the starting grid are being made at Mussett Engineering. Floor panels, nose cones and side bars are among the composite components that are produced for the cars, and competitive, high speed races mean that the firm's engineers need to regularly make replacement parts and upgrades to keep the teams on track during the race season, which ends in September. "We've been working for Formula Two since 2007 and the orders always keep our composites division very busy," Mr Mussett offered. "Over the winter months, we worked on parts for a number of Formula One teams and we also work throughout the year on parts for the World Rally Series. We have an excellent reputation as a top-tier supplier for motorsport clients."
