Mollart Engineering has secured a major long term export contract worth over £4.8 million to supply high specification two-spindle gundrills from its Chessington headquarters. The deal spans two years and is destined for a European fuel injection company and its sub-suppliers around the world.

Said sales director Ian Petitt: "This contract is an important endorsement for Mollart worldwide, involving special engineering and production application development against strong international competitors - all very keen to secure the business. The customer was seeking a complete package of advanced gundrilling techniques and machine specification that involved special drill development and the meeting of strict environmental standards." Each machine will be manually loaded with semi-automation to assist the datuming and foolproof location of two fuel rail components at a time. The range of holes produced varies according to the part type, between 7.1 mm and 10.1 mm diameter by up to 750 mm in depth. The Botek/Mollart developed tooling uses highly specialised point geometry for the polished form drills and each machine has to adhere to customer demands for minimal power usage. This includes automatic shutdown when not cycling, high efficiency motors, LED lighting and high specification cartridge-based coolant filtration.
