Mitsubishi Carbide announces aerospace sector initiative

The primary role of the unit will be to increase activity and develop products for this market sector. After successful projects with key aerospace manufacturers such as Rolls Royce, Airbus and BAE Systems, the unit will be able to actively focus on further development within these companies, and also introduce new methods, techniques, technology and the latest advanced tooling to tier one and two sub-contractors. The members of the unit will comprise specialist application engineers with many years' aerospace experience. "The involvement of Mitsubishi Materials in the global aerospace sector is of growing importance. With the introduction of this unit in the UK and other markets, it will enable customers to benefit from the company’s advanced tooling programme,” said Mitsubishi Carbide UK managing director Ian Morris. As part of Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, Mitsubishi Carbide has access to its own unique material substrates and coatings, enabling extended tool life and increased metal removal rates, especially on difficult-to-cut aerospace materials. The focus of the new group is additionally on high speed machining of aluminium alloys. Tools particularly suited to this include Alimaster solid carbide endmills supplied with or without internal coolant holes for MQL (minimum quantity lubricant), together with high performance drills and indexable milling cutters, including the new AXD7000 range. In addition, there will be a focus on the increasingly important area of composite tooling, with products for drilling and trimming of composite materials.
