Yamazaki Mazak UK. has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for its export of the market leading Mazak range of CNC lathes, machining centres and multi-tasking machine tools.

The Award has been based on the previous three years export performances, which have seen a significant growth in sales for the entire range of Mazak machine tools. In fact, exports from the European headquarters in Worcester account for 82 per cent of Yamazaki Mazak UK’s turnover, with machines being delivered to 28 countries across Europe. While the bulk of this business is concentrated in the traditional markets of Germany, Italy, France and western Europe, Mazak has also developed sales in the former eastern bloc countries, opening a sales company in Prague in 2004 and establishing successful sales agencies in the Baltic States. The overall success of the European sales operation has in turn led to a continuing expansion of the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Worcester. This has recently undergone major investment in order to provide the additional capacity needed to produce in excess of 140 machine tools per month “Being honoured with a Queen’s Award for our contribution to international trade is a tribute to the hard work of all of our staff,” says David Jack, group managing director europe. “We are proud of our export achievements, which have increased by 53 per cent over the past three years. Central to that is the facility that we have here in Worcester, which not only manufactures more than 1,400 machine tools annually but is also maintained as a ‘working showroom’ that plays host to over 1,000 overseas customers and potential customers each year.”
