Japanese mould and die firms prefer WorkNC

In a December 2007 repeat of its annual survey of Japanese die and mold makers, the daily Nikkan Kogyo Newspaper found Sescoi's WorkNC to be the most widely used CAM system in Japan for the second year running.

The number of companies using WorkNC was twice that of the nearest non-Japanese CAM system. “We are delighted that we have retained our number one position in the Japanese market," said Shinsuke Iimura of Sescoi Japan. "The new developments in the latest version of WorkNC and our 5-axis capability fit well with the trends revealed in the survey, enabling us to continue to offer Japanese die and mold makers the most productive CAM system in the industry.” Some 61 per cent of the companies surveyed said they intended to invest during 2008 to cut costs, improve quality and shorten delivery times. They showed particular interest in 5-axis machining, planned by 27 per cent of the sample. WorkNC features 5-axis routines, including Auto 5, which automatically translates 3-axis movements into 5-axis toolpaths, allowing companies to machine more of the part in one setting with shorter and more rigid cutters.
