Hexagon Metrology UK has completed the first ever NPL Training course by an approved deliverer at its new Swindon Technical Centre.

The training course was delivered on 8 October. This inaugural Dimensional Level 1 customer course follows hot on the heels of the trainer accreditation courses recently held at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL). Hexagon Metrology has started a programme of having approved trainers in place to offer this course to UK manufacturing and is a fully committed supporter of this ground-breaking training framework, it says. This is the first of many courses in what will undoubtedly become the standard for dimensional training, "we are very pleased with the level 1 framework and are working with NPL and other parties to make this an invaluable and relevant part of manufacturing training plans" said Ian Wilcox, aftermarket business development manager at Hexagon Metrology. Hexagon has started a programme of putting all its applications people through the training with two having sat this first course. Though Hexagon has an internal training scheme for its own support staff, the NPL training also offers an accredited and practical approach to dimensional measurement skills starting with the basics. "As a company that sells dimensional measuring equipment of all types we see the day to day problems that this framework sets out to tackle. Bad measurement practice and poor underpinning skills knowledge are prevalent and the cost of measurement is starting to be recognised as being too high in most companies. By spreading measurement best practice and knowledge these costs can be attacked and measurement effectively managed," underlined Mr Wilcox.
