Delcam user Zytek powers Le Mans winner

JOTA Sport won the LMP2 class at the Le Mans 24-hour race, held last weekend, in a Zytek-Nissan Z11N car.

But part of the success has been put down to the engine in the car - developed by Zytek Automotive using Delcam software. The auto firm first started using Delcam's PowerMILL CAM system to program its range of Mori-Seiki machine tools in 2004. Since then, Zytek and Delcam have worked together on developing more efficient 5-axis machining of the inlet and exhaust ports of the engine. The results have included reductions in machining times of up to 60%, together with better quality and consistency. The 4.5-litre V8 engine used in the car is called the VK45DE and it is developed and serviced at Zytek's HQ in Repton, Derbyshire. The same engines also helped TDS Ligier and G-Drive Ligier come in 2nd and 5th place during the same race. Meanwhile, Zytek has just unveiled the design for a Zytech Coupe (pictured below) to replace the Z11SN LMP2 that has just won the Le Mans 24-hour race. The initial design phase is well under way and the firm is on schedule to have a car testing by the later part of 2015, ready for racing in 2016.
