Citizen Machinery UK Open House bags £1.6 million on back of new machine previews

Citizen Machinery UK is celebrating the receipt of 12 orders valued at £1.6 million, following its Open House held last week.

The three-day event saw almost 200 industrialists take the opportunity to preview new machine introductions from the Citizen Cincom CNC sliding-head and Miyano fixed-head turn-mill centre portfolio, prior to their European launch at the EMO 2015 exhibition in Milan this month.

Says Citizen Machinery UK managing director Geoff Bryant: “Over the three days, 196 people directly associated with manufacturing industry came along and ordered eight Citizen and four Miyano machines. From the high levels of interest shown in the new machines, as well as the demonstrations being run on existing machine installations in our showroom, we are very confident of further follow-on orders and of securing future business.”

One of the 17 invited complementary exhibitors, J&S Engineering, a specialist in oil and coolant reclamation, centrifuges and swarf handling equipment based in Cheltenham was also positive. The company’s John Shipling reckoned a third of visitors he spoke to were new companies to his business, with 20 good enquiries resulting. “Eight were very serious in their interest and we had five on-site demonstrations booked at the event,” he reveals.

The event staged previews of new key machines prior to their European EMO exhibition launch. From the Citizen Cincom stable, the latest generation from the top-selling-around-the-world L-Series saw two models, the L20-X and L32-Vlll. These machines introduced Citizen’s modular design strategy and spanned a 5-axis machine with 30-tool capacity to a highly flexible 7-axis version with 40 tools plus a B-axis and Y2 axis on the back tool post.

From Miyano came the latest BNJ-SY6 fixed-head, turn-mill centre with 42 and 51 mm bar capacity or 6 inch chuck options, which generated a lot of interest. Both spindles of the machine have gained higher rigidity to support the main 12-station turret that has higher rated 2.2 kW, 6,000 rpm driven tools with 25 Nm of torque and the introduction of an upgraded second, eight-station turret, now supporting driven tool capability in four positions.

(Look out for Machinery’s forthcoming October issue, which will contain more information on the new machines and the event)
