CBM’s vision reaches critical mass

The long term vision of the Confederation of British Metalforming (CBM) is paying off as the Gauge and Toolmakers Association (GTMA) relocate to the National Metalforming Centre (NMC) on the outskirts of West Bromwich.

CBM president Alan Shaw said the GTMA was the eighth industrial association to relocate to the CBM site since it took a strategic decision to invest in the creation of the NMC ten years ago. "We recognised that to offer a 21st century service to our members, we needed a purpose-built headquarters, which could house our specialist officers, offer space for training, conferences and outside events, and be a focal point for British industry," Mr Shaw said. We thought it was worth investing significantly in the NMC, and although I wasn't on the CBM executive board at the time, I have to say that it was an ambitious and far-sighted move." CBM president, Alan Shaw, said the GTMA would benefit from his organisation's back office and administration structure, and have access to its manufacturing resource centre, and other membership facilities. "We're delighted to welcome them, there are obvious synergies to having them here, and I'm sure their members will benefit significantly from the move," Mr Shaw continued. "Over the years, various like-minded organisations have taken advantage of our central location, and our facilities, including the Cold Rolled Sections Association, Cast Metals Federation. Their presence has helped us develop critical mass, and this site has now evolved into a significant cluster of manufacturing expertise, with a genuine international presence." The Confederation of British Metalforming (CBM) says it is the UK's leading trade association for companies in the forging, pressing and sheet metalforming industries. It has approximately 200 members including the leading British manufacturers and represents 20,000 employees in the UK.
