Bystronic UK welcomed over 100 people to their Innovation Week at the beginning of October, held at the Coventry facility over three consecutive days. The focus of the week was to showcase the latest in technology and services from Bystronic to existing and potential new clients.

Addressing the need to provide combined data and hardware solutions for clients from small companies to large users, the BySoft suite of software was introduced, showing how it is used to control stand-alone machines, automated cells or fully equipped end-to-end solutions for advanced production.

As usual at Bystronic open days, there was an opportunity to see the newest equipment demonstrated in action and to spend time getting familiar with the capabilities as shown by the well-trained staff. On show were laser cutting and pressbrake systems including the versatile ByTube Star 130 for fully automated laser cutting of metal tubes with 3kW of laser power.

Finally, to round off the week, The PP Group of Companies agreed orders for a large fiber laser cutting machine with an 8 m bed and a new pressbrake ordered by PP Profiles (West Yorkshire), these being very significant to the future direction of this existing Bystronic customer.

To maintain competitiveness in challenging times, many organisations are embracing the concept of smart factories which contribute towards the adoption of Industry 4.0, the so-called 4th industrial revolution. Smart factories deliver benefits including: cost reduction, agility to support scalability, and improved business control through full transparency. The comprehensive Work Center Console offers a wealth of information about vital feedback mechanisms for productivity, production output, and, OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency).

Bystronic is well-known for having a customer-centred approach to after-sales support. Recent changes to the structure of the UK team have increased the level of technicians to cover proactive activities as well as performing cross-training of engineers and hotline staff to provide more efficient customer service.

A constant evolution of Bystronic products makes machines and systems more efficient, prolongs the lifecycle and increases the uptime. Overall, product development pushes the boundaries towards the future and pushes the emphasis from reactive repairs to proactive updates and actions to circumvent future potential problems and downtime.

Following discussions during Innovation Week, The PP Group of Companies based in Oldham agreed an order for a 20 kW ByStar Fiber laser cutting machine with an 8,150mm x 2,600mm cutting area and PP Profiles (West Yorkshire) ordered a 4.1m x 400t Xpert Pro pressbrake.

Directors Ian McAllister and Peter McCabe from P P Profiles committed to further investment in Bystronic machines. The new laser will be a replacement for their existing 6,000 x 2,000 6kw Bystronic Laser, upgrading the power and bed size to increase production capabilities at their Oldham site. The new pressbrake from Bystronic will be the third investment in two years significantly bolstering their bending capacity.

These new machines represent the largest single investment across the two sites in the company’s history and will further strengthen their position as a market leader.

Peter McCabe said: “This latest investment highlights our commitment to the future for all stakeholders. The significantly increased cutting speeds will not only lead to direct commercial savings for our customers but will also be another step in the right direction towards lowering our carbon footprint. We will now be able to offer longer, more intricate parts to the market where they would historically need to be offered in segments, further saving our customers manufacturing time.“
