Bumper year supported by growing sales to new customers, says Open Mind Technologies UK

Already having surpassed its previous annual results record and with final quarter sales figures yet to be counted, Open Mind Technologies UK is on target for a bumper year.

Says sales director Ken Baldwin: “For a long time, hyperMILL has been the leading 5-axis CAM system. The ever increasing market demand for the rapid turnaround of complex components with ever faster programming, set-up and production times is emphasising the potential and the need for CAM software like hyperMILL.

“hyperMILL is perfect for such instances and we are proving this in trials on a daily basis around the UK. It is also something we are noting with an increasing uptake in visitors to our dedicated Open House and demo days. We recently arranged a 5-axis CAM event that was hosted by Hurco and with over 40 attendees, we only had five existing customers at the event. This emphasises a trend where new customer interest is out-stripping existing user sales.”

Focusing on this new customer element in particular, he adds: “Our sales over the last three years to new customers have grown very steadily. Those new customers tend to buy additional seats in years two and three to a level that continually outperforms ‘new’ customer sales. Whilst this is a great endorsement for hyperMILL; to usurp existing customer sales has always been the holy grail. This repeat business has always tended to outstrip ‘new sales’ figures considerably. However, the changing landscape of product design and material technology are factors aiding our exceptional new sales figures. In addition, the CAM market is getting a real shake-up at the moment, with some competitors changing their business processes and practices."

He concludes: “Our existing user sales are outperforming previous sales records, but it’s the new customer uptake that is really giving us a foothold in core industry sectors such as the F1, aerospace and general subcontract sectors. As we head towards 2017, we will be looking to recruit new technical engineers to provide support to this swiftly growing customer base.”
