Baty brings former TESA Scan equipment back into the UK

Baty International is now selling the Scan range of optical component scanning instruments for the workshop. Three Scan machines were formerly part of Hexagon Metrology's TESA division, but were transferred to Swiss instrument manufacturer Sylvac when Sylvac bought TESA Scan earlier this year. Baty is the optical measuring arm of Bowers Group, which is Sylvac's UK reseller.

The Scan products measure turned parts. The Scan 52, part capacity 52 mm diameter, 300 mm length, is claimed to be the first horizontal machine specially designed for workshop measurement close to the machine tool. The idea is to measure the parts in the same position as they are machined. The machine offers intuitive software and a one-click measure function.

Two other models, Scan 25 and Scan 50, (capacities 25 and 50 mm diameter, and 200 and 275 mm length respectively) are entry-level vertical machines for measurement of smaller cylindrical parts. These models feature an integrated projector on the left side of the machine, allowing the operator to preview the profile image. With the workpiece secured, the machine moves the work piece through the optical path whilst scanning the profile.

The Scan 50 CE Plus / Plus machines offer a motorised axis used to incline the work piece to the helix angle of the thread, thus allowing a true projected image of the thread form. This Sylvac slewing system allows the operator to measure many more features on threads, such as minor diameter and root detail, on ball screws for example, claims the company.

All models in the Scan range are available with a rotating part axis for dynamic measurement such as concentricity and non-symmetrical features.

At the time it acquired the TESA Scan range, Sylvac also acquired the TESA Visio range of non-contact measurement equipment. The equipment resembles a standard microscope, and holds parts on a stage. But because a similar product already exists in the Baty range, Bowers Group has no plans to sell that range in the UK.
