Two Yamazaki Mazak employees have achieved success in national training awards organised by the Gauge & Toolmakers Association.

The two, Philip Jackson and Stewart Billings, received their 2007 GTMA Training Awards at an annual luncheon in April. Mr Jackson received the Nicholas Van Moppes Trophy with a certificate and cheque for £300 to mark his second place in the GTMA Apprentice of the Year category, while Mr Billings’ first place in the NVQ qualifications category was acknowledged with a certificate and cheque for £100. Mr Jackson’s achievement qualifies him for inclusion in the 21-strong UK Skills team that will compete for international honours in the WorldSkills event taking place in Japan later this year. Both presentations were made by Nik Tipler, GTMA president and managing partner of the Wines Group, and David George, standards & qualifications manager with SEMTA (Science, Engineering and Manufacturing Technology Alliance), the industry organisation with Sector Skills Council responsibility for improving education and training within relevant industry sectors.
