Advances in Machining conference

The 'Advances in Machining conference' is a focal point within the bigger Global Manufacturing Festival being held in Sheffield from 24-25 June.

The conference, to be held onTuesday, 24 June, will feature presentations on the latest sector technology from industry leaders. Live demonstrations will include: the latest tooling, toolholders and part cutting strategies; prediction of machining dynamics; and 3D tool wear measuring. The conference keynote speech will be delivered by Mark Ridgway OBE, president of the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA). Among the sector leaders presenting will be Pete Osborne of AMRC with Boeing, who will speak about the challenges anticipated for machining in the future. He will be followed by Lee Scott from Starrag UK, who will discuss some of the latest experiences of cryogenic machining, and Kevin Jones from DMG Mori, who will cover ultrasonic machining. Other speakers will include: Richard Jones of the Tata Proving Factory Project; John Liverton of Mazak; and Steve Thompson of Fluid Maintenance Solutions. The Advances in Machining conference will culminate in a prestigious Manufacturing Dinner on the evening of the 24 June. Attending the dinner will be key business leaders, international guests, sponsors and partners of the festival. A senior government minister will also deliver the keynote speech and, following this, there will be a question and answer session with a panel of experts from the manufacturing sector.
