Optimax to showcase Alicona CMM at MACH

Metrology and inspection specialist, Optimax, will showcase at MACH 2020 (Birmingham NEC, April 20-24) what it describes as the most accurate purely optical micro-CMM in its class - the Bruker Alicona µCMM.

The µCMM overcomes the inefficiencies of traditional methods by enabling the complete, automatic measurement of position, dimension, form and roughness in one device, reports Optimax. With its newly patented ‘Vertical Focus Probing Technology,’ the µCMM can measure vertical walls with a slope of +90°. In addition, the device is able to measure tight-tolerance features, even on very smooth surfaces, into the nm range.

An automated, robust and intuitive instrument, with a 310 mm measurement capacity, the µCMM is carefully engineered for permanent use in the production process. Measurement times are reduced by 5-50 times, says the company, with measurement of patch 3D data clouds on selected areas and a drastic increase in travel speed in the X, Y and Z axes. According to Optimax, the µCMM’s intuitive and ergonomic design facilitates multi-user use without specialist training.

By extending from a 3 to a 5-axis system, the µCMM can measure flank angle, lead angle, thread pitch and undercuts on components. Thedevice accurately measures all common industrial materials and composites with different reflection properties, including plastic, PCD, CFRP, ceramic, chrome and silicon. Increasingly smooth and reflective precision parts can also be measured with the machine’s SmartFlash 2.0 technology.

Visitors can discover more about theµCMM by visiting supplier Optimax (Stand 631, Hall 19) and Bruker Alicona (Stand 500, Hall 18) at the show.
