Electrox Cobra accelerates laser coding

Electrox has launched Cobra, its first high speed CO2 coding laser. Designed for use on fast-moving production lines, the machine represents Electrox's first foray into high speed packaging applications. The Cobra will mark up to 2,500 characters per second on line speeds up to 300 m/min.

At the same time, the use of CO2 laser coding will provide sectors such as packaging and industrial goods a clear and superior mark in comparison to the traditionally favoured inkjet marking, says the company. With no need for consumables such as ink, Cobra offers reduced maintenance downtime, gives cleaner, more environmentally friendly results, and offers lower long-term cost of ownership, it is claimed. Among the substrates on to which the Cobra can code are plastics – including PET – glass and paper. Available in 10 and 30 W versions, the laser is also suitable for cutting, scoring, perforating and slitting flexible film and foil.
