Trike and nPB alternative offered by 3M

The Solvents Emissions Directive, which becomes mandatory at the end of October 2007, has major implications for the thousands of companies who currently use Trike as a solvent for cleaning and degreasing purposes.

Although nPB has been suggested as a substitute, it is still classed in the EU as a CMR substance (carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic to reproduction) and therefore, many people believe it will still require substitution under the terms of the Directive, says 3M. So, rather than having to make a decision between these chemicals, the company is suggesting a third way with its Novec solvents range, which can meet the Directive’s requirements without the CMR problems associated with other chemicals. 3M is to hold seminars throughout 2006 to highlight its new solvent and the need for action as the Directive closes in. For details about the seminars or for further information about Novec solvents from 3M in general, contact Mark Nursall on mnursall@mmm.com or 07836 21831.
