Dorman to exhibit new grinding and deburring machines at MACH 2014

Haas Schleifmaschinen is giving a UK debut to its CA Multigrind machine, which is designed for the manufacture of aero-engine components such as turbine blades; medical components such as artificial knee joints, hip joints, bone rasps and reamers; as well as gear grinding, cylindrical grinding and the production of complex cutting tools. The machine may be specified with a large, automatic tool changer to enable a multitude of machining operations such as milling, polishing and belt linishing, as well as internal, external and thread grinding. The Haas CA Multigrind is equipped with a 12 kW grinding spindle offered in three variants up to 36,000 rpm. The general working envelope accommodates parts up to 360 mm in diameter and 400 mm in length. Coolant pipes are NC controlled for automatic adjustment during the grinding process and may also be exchanged automatically along with grinding wheel sets. A 3D measurement probe is standard fitment, while automatic wheel dressing and part loading is also available. Similarly, Gerber will give a UK debut to its new BP Smart vertical deburring machine, which is employed in a variety of sectors such as the gear industry, the automotive and medical industries, and the cutting tool industries for brush deburring, edge preparation and polishing. Krebs & Riedel will show its range of CBN and conventional grinding wheels, again for the first time in the UK. Diamond and CBN wheels are available from 3 mm to over 900 mm in diameter with peripheral grinding speeds of up to 160 m/s. Dorman can already count Perkins Engines, Grundfos and Delphi Diesel Systems amongst its growing UK customer base for Krebs & Riedel products. One area where Krebs & Riedel specialises is in the supply of special wheels for gear and thread grinding applications. These are now available to suit machines manufactured by Gleason-Pfauter, Oerlikon, Kapp-Niles, Hofler, Maag, Samputensili and Reishauer. Handling Tech, which is Dorman's chosen provider of automation systems, has selected MACH 2014 for the UK launch of its Robax loader. Robax is said to be suitable for the fast and easy loading of all types of parts to machine tools of all kinds. According to Dorman, the attraction of Robax is in its great flexibility with six standard sizes. Fanuc or Staubli 6-axis robots are used for handling parts up to 700 kg. Completing Dorman's line-up at MACH 2014 will be the latest centerless grinding machine from Tschudin – the Ecoline is suitable for the production of components that require a plunge grinding operation. Tschudin's patented W-axis means that up to 10 parts at a time can be loaded directly to the work-rest blade outside of the machining zone. The existing problem in looking to grind so many parts at once on more conventional centerless grinding machines is that parts have to be loaded directly to a work-rest blade that's always located in a fixed position directly between the grinding and control wheels; both of which are rotating at very high speeds.
