Bevel gear production machinery breakthrough for China

China has established its own CNC spiral bevel gear product line, making it the third country in the world to have such a capability after the United States and Germany, reports The China People’s Daily Online.

“It took China almost two generations to develop the spiral bevel gear technology,” said Zeng Tao, professor of the Central South University, who devoted more than 30 years in the study of the technology. China has depended on foreign spiral bevel gear production technology and Wu Bailin from the China Machine Tool and Tool Builders Association said the new product line marked a major breakthrough against the American and Germany monopoly in this field. Compared with the imported equipment which usually costs more than 10 million yuan (about $1.2 million) per machine, the China-developed new costs some 4 million yuan (about $486,000) each.
