Röhm has developed its COE face drivers to allow components to be completely machined, including milling, turning and cross-hole drilling in a single set-up. The surface quality achieved is said to be similar to a milling process when the part is clamped by a vice.
The modular design face driver enables the universal exchange of driving discs and centring pins, so that the tool fits different kinds of components very easily. The tool has a clamping range from 8 to 80 mm. Mechanical force compensation ensures uniform clamping force without any clearance.
In conventional tongue and groove designs clearance usually requires a reversing movement. The Röhm design involves a novel interface between the drive plate and the clamping unit and prismatic grooves and spherical pins that withdraw into one another. The spring-loaded centre centralises components automatically.
