Mate Premia automates precision sharpening of popular punch press tooling

Menu-driven automatic operation of Mate's Premia offers three standard programs for small, medium and large tools, plus two more that are completely customisable. These programs ensure consistency, no matter who operates the machine, but the system can also be used in manual mode. For maximum operator versatility, the touchscreen interface allows a choice of language and measurement units. The software interface is easily updatable via a USB port or SD card. The universal fixture accommodates all popular tooling styles including thick turret, Trumpf style, Murata Wiedemann, Multi Tool, thin turret, XMT and Salvagnini. Essentially all the operator needs to do is insert the tool in the fixture, select the appropriate program from the menu, press Start and Premia sharpens the tool without assistance. The software provides an estimated time to completion. The sharpening system shuts off automatically when the work is finished. For additional flexibility, Premia has a large 320.04 mm rotary table to sharpen the largest diameter tools. The table angle is also adjustable from 0° to 12° to allow shears (including rooftop and Trumpf-style whisper) to be ground on punches for optimal punching efficiency. The Premia incorporates a solid surface 200 mm CBN grinding wheel without the faster-wearing perpendicular slots. A coolant flow system directs coolant automatically through the grinding wheel. A dual stage filtering process has magnetic swarf retention (MSR) – a proprietary Mate feature for simpler and less frequent servicing and it also extends coolant pump life. The system's specification includes a 3.3 kW motor for sharpening the largest tools; full data tracking of all tools sharpened, wheel, coolant life and motor life history; and grind depth and removal rate settings. The 10.5 gallon coolant tank is wheel-mounted for easy tank cleaning and coolant change. The Premia has a 1,943 by 762 by 660 mm footprint and weighs 300 kg.
