iPendant Touch interface Fanuc R-30iB controller speeds up robot programming

Using the same platform as the Fanuc 30i CNC controller, Fanuc's completely revised robot controller, the R-30iB, packs the same power as its larger predecessor. It supports over 4,096 I/Os, has 40 axes control capability and eight motion groups, up to four line tracking encoders and provides support for most common industrial communication/bus systems.

Fanuc R-30iB's iPendant Touch interface has a 4D graphic function and provides real time process visualisation on its touchscreen monitor making programming and editing faster. Using 3D graphic simulations, the programmer can save time by seeing all active safety zones both when programming and importantly when recovering. The R-30iB occupies 500 by 600 by 470 mm, which is a 68% reduction over its predecessor. Controllers in multi-robot systems can also be stacked – a stack of three R-30iBs occupying 77% less floorspace than individual units. Various energy efficiency strategies have been introduced. These include automatic motor braking after exceeding a programmed idle period, allowing motors to reduce power but still maintain arm position. Similarly, cooling fans are stopped when not required and regeneration of power is enabled through an optional unit. Improved software features on the controller, which provide additional opportunities for reducing cycle times and maximising productivity, include Learning Vibration Control (LVC).
