Scene 5.0, Faro Technologies' latest release of its point cloud capture processing software for the Focus3D, enables users to view their scans in true stereoscopic 3D. In many cases, says Faro, automatic fine registration eliminates the need for artificial targets when piecing together multiple scans. This significantly reduces post-processing time.
Faro Scene 5.0's cloud-to-cloud enhancement, rather than using spheres or checkerboards, identifies prominent objects such as corners, edges and other flat structures within the scan and uses them as reference points. This aids seamless melding of multiple scans to form a single, complete point cloud. It further expedites the merging of scans between remote users.
Scene 5.0 now also provides a Project Database to facilitate scanning project collaboration. This stores project information and a step-by-step history of each scanning project. Users are now able to return to any step in a scanning database, quickly and easily, no matter where they may be in their process. They can also select which details to display on a given project, allowing users to choose which level of detail to display and reducing extraneous data points.
Scene 5.0 also supports the ASTM E57 industry standard, a manufacturer-independent, binary data exchange format for 3D data. Through this, users can import and export scanning data regardless of the specific product used to capture it.
