Datron polished single-flute end-mills offer cost-effective alternative to diamonds

High speed milling machine manufacturer Datron says its polished single-flute solid carbide end-mills, which it suggests are ideal for cutting plastics, offer a highly efficient alternative to diamond-fitted polishing milling cutters that can cost 10 times as much. Roughing and finishing can be performed with a single tool to achieve near-polished transparent milled edges and contours – minimising or eliminating any rework.

The tools are available in 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 mm diameters with an overall length of 50 mm and cutting lengths ranging from 7, 8, 10, 12 and 14 mm. As well as a very finely polished cutting edge, the cutting geometry, with steeper cutting angles, delivers much sharper cutting edges compared to universal single-flute end-mills, says Datron. The 30º angled grooves not only improve cutting rates but also facilitate chip disposal and reduce the risk of built-up edges.
