Victor for the third time at Qualitek

1 min read

Impressed by the performance of two previously purchased Vturn lathes and the levels of service provided by Victor Europe, subcontractor Qualitek latest acquisition is a Victor Vturn 36.

The Vturn 36 has a bed length centre distance of 50 in, a maximum cutting diameter of 20.9 in, and a swing over bed of 26.77 in, making it ideal for large chucking jobs. The Vturn 36's slant bed design, including torque-tube box ways and a rigid spindle, results in a rigid machine tool that is particularly suited for the heavy cutting of a range of materials including hardened steels. The Vturn 36's powerful spindle motor, coupled with a two speed gear box, is balanced to provide enhanced machining performance for heavy duty cutting at low rpms. Pre-tensioned, double anchored ballscrews improve machining accuracy by minimising the effects of thermal growth, while direct coupled servomotors eliminate backlash. Qualitek managing director John Tovey said: "Even though we had been impressed by the performance of our two older Victor lathes, prior to the purchase of the Vturn 36, we examined the merits of several alternative, large CNC lathes. Although our first class experience with the company's machine tools may have influenced our decision, I truly believe that the Victor Vturn 36 best met our long list of criteria. In fact, the rapid payback on investment we have experienced with Victor machines means that we hope to be purchasing a further bar fed, Victor CNC lathe in the near future."
