Premier Deep Hole Drilling wins Bombardier CSeries contract

Gundrilling, drilling and honing specialist Premier, St Albans, Hertfordshire, has secured a new contract to supply actuators for the new Bombardier CSeries regional aircraft programme. The initial contract is for a batch of 30 single-cylinder actuation systems for flight control surfaces on the advanced testing aircraft.

Made up of four parts up to 1.1 m long, the components are very similar to actuation parts Premier is contracted to produce for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and 747-8, as well as for the Airbus A320/330/350 series of airliners. The new Bombardier CSeries aircraft contains features similar to those found in the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Airbus A350 aircraft, including higher usage of composite materials, a lower cabin altitude and larger windows. The CSeries aircraft contain 70% advanced materials, comprising 46% composite materials and 24% aluminium-lithium, which, it is claimed, provides a 15% lower seat-mile cost and a significant reduction in maintenance costs.
