UK-headquartered CAM firms Delcam and Planit have put in a strong showing in the latest CIMdata market share survey, taking third and fourth place respectively.

CIMdata, the leading global PLM consulting and research firm, tracks approximately 50 CAM software suppliers and the rankings in the report list 15 to 30 suppliers, depending upon the category. Latest results place the UK's Delcam third amongst the world's CAM software market leaders, behind Siemens and then Dassault Systèmes. Delcam has a 7.5% share and is also put as the largest specialty supplier. Planit is closely behind, with 6.3%, and is put as the leader on the basis of industrial seats shipped and seat installed. Germany's Open Mind is placed eighth in the overall market share rankings. Worldwide, the five most rapidly growing CAM software suppliers, on the basis of revenue in 2010 as compared to 2009, were C&G Systems, SolidCAM, Geometric Technologies, CGTech (Vericut), and CNC Software (Mastercam). C&G Systems Inc was named as the most rapidly growing supplier, at 91.4% - a new company resulting from the merger of Graphic Products, Japan and Computer Engineering Inc of the US. "2010 was a rebound year for the CAM software market as the estimated overall market size for end-user payments grew by 7.6%, from $1.239 billion to $1.333 billion. CIMdata projects that the overall market will continue to grow in 2010 by 6% to $1.412 billion," stated Stan Przybylinski, CIMdata's director of research, who led the data collection effort. Alan Christman, CIMdata's chairman and long-time author of the study, highlighted: "Even though there have been a number of recent mergers and acquisitions, the CAM software market continues to be highly fragmented and competitive. There is no single supplier or small group of suppliers that dominate the worldwide market, and this is illustrated by the number of different market leaders, depending on the ranking category."
