Bloodhound LSR project looking for a new driver as it looks to break land speed record again

The owner of the Bloodhound Land Speed Record (LSR) project has launched a new campaign "Race to Greatness: Bloodhound Land Speed Record Driver Search" aimed at finding a new driver for the iconic car as it looks to break the current record of 763mph.

The aim of the campaign is to "attract passionate and skilled individuals who are ready to push the boundaries of speed and aspire to become part of history", by driving the fastest car on Earth.

Between the 8-14 November, a full-scale replica of the Bloodhound LSR car, that has been given a new livery to publicise the driver search campaign, will be on display throughout a roadshow starting in the Midlands, travelling south to London and then onto Surrey and Hampshire.

As well as press and media, the roadshow will engage with the public where possible, allowing fans and members of the public to come and meet members of the team as well. The roadshow will also take in a route in central London on Saturday, 11 November, and a wider route of London and the M25 on Sunday, 12 November.

Any potential drivers must be able to bring the required funding to enable the project to set a new Land Speed Record, as well as having the relevant experience and skills to drive a car up to and over 800mph. Therefore, Bloodhound is asking for anyone who thinks they have the appropriate financial backing, experience and skills, to get in touch through its website.

Bloodhound CEO, Stuart Edmondson, said: "As we enter a new chapter of the Bloodhound LSR Project, I am excited about the opportunity and challenges that lie ahead, and confident that this will enable us to return to South Africa and set a new record.

"With a new driver, along with my aim of not using fossil fuels to set a new FIA Outright World Land Speed Record, the project promises to be exciting, engaging and relevant at so many levels.”

Wing Commander Andy Green OBE was the first person to break the sound barrier on land when setting the current record of 763.035mph in 1997, in the Thrust SSC car. He will reportedly be part of the driver selection process.
