Search Help

Machinery's search facility utilises sophisticated algorithms to ensure that only the most appropriate results are returned. It performs searches in two content areas simultaneously: the www.machinery.co.uk databases; and the World Wide Web (Internet).

Machinery Search Coverage
The Machinery database search covers all content on the Machinery website and returns results from the following:

  • Buyers Guide Suppliers by Category
  • Buyers Guide Suppliers by Company name
  • Used Machine/Equipment
  • News articles
  • Technology Zone Categories
  • Technology Zone Articles
  • Jobs
  •
    Optimised Internet Search
Machinery operates optimised Internet searching. This uses the entered search criteria and searches the world wide web (Internet) for sites which match Machinery's optimisation rules. These rules restrict results to only return relevant pages.

    Preferred Supplier
Basic entries on Machinery's website database for all appropriate organisations is free. Direct access to all suppliers' contact information is not restricted in any way for users looking for specific organisations by name. Similarly, all product or service search results include all matching records but may require a second click to display full listings. Inclusion of a company in any category is based on data provided by that company and while Machinery takes every care to ensure accuracy in the compilation of the data for the directory, the publisher cannot accept responsibility for errors and omissions. Updates and correction can be made to the online version by contacting admin@machinery.co.uk

Included in the site search is the optimised Internet Search (see above). Result rankings and inclusion in the results is governed by the content and technology of the suppliers' website pages as interrogated by the spider technology. The only additional ranking of these results is where returned websites are a Machinery Buyers Guide advertiser. These organisations are prioritised in all search results.

Machinery's online Buyers Guide is an extended version of the printed annual directory Machinery Buyers Guide. Suppliers advertising in current annual buyers guide, and other selected suppliers advertising in Machinery magazine, are given priority in the Buyers Guide search results. All the returned product or service search results include all matching records from the buyers guide directory but may require a second click to display full listings.

Additional advertising and promotional features are available to all suppliers.

    Search Logic
The search is case insensitive, based on whole words (spaces, commas etc are ignored).

Machinery utilises Boolean AND logic e.g. Production Engineer UK is represented as
Production and Engineer and UK with the appropriate matching results returned. Other Boolean logic such as OR, NOT are allowed and can be entered as part of the search criteria, these would supersede the default AND logic e.g. Automotive OR Aerospace would return results matched to either Automotive or Aerospace.

To obtain specific phrase rather than word matching then place double quotes around
    the text e.g. "Production engineer".

    Search Restrictions
A minimum of three characters is required. Wild card searching (using “*”) is not permitted.
