Schmitt Europe unveils two grinding wheel balance controllers plus a surface measurement innovation

Schmitt Europe, a specialist in grinding wheel balancing systems, is showcasing two new grinding wheel balancer controllers and surface roughness measurement systems at EMO, Hanover, September 2011 (Hall 5, Stand G26).

The new SB-1000 is a simple-to-use grinding wheel balancer controller, designed to fill a market niche, allowing grinding machine manufacturers and end-users to install automatic or semi-automatic balancing equipment at reduced cost, while still achieving high accuracy.

The system will report unbalance and over-speed of the grinding wheel assembly and re-balance when required, ensuring that surface finish and geometry of the ground components are always in specification, giving maximum productivity and quality from the grinding machine.

The new AE 1000 is a compact, economical and easy-to-use acoustic emission detection device for monitoring gap and crash events and dresser control during grinding cycle operations. It allows the machine tool to automatically respond to key process events, facilitating gap control, diamond dresser control and crash detection, achieving increased precision, improving efficiency and reducing costs.

The AE-1000 reduces air grinding time and alerts the operator of 'crash' conditions by using proprietary acoustic detection technology to monitor and analyse high frequency signals generated by the grinding process. Both these products complement the recently launched SB-5500 range of automatic balancer controllers, offering increased grinding efficiency and accuracy.

Schmitt Europe will also be exhibiting Lasercheck, a high performance surface roughness (Ra) measurement and control system capable of in-process, real-time measurement at the machine, without interrupting manufacturing operations. Lasercheck can measure product surface roughness down to 0.0125 micron in fractions of a second, ensuring good quality control.
