Ultrasonic leak detector for energy conservation

Leaks often account for over 30 per cent of the compressed air consumed in industrial plants. Huge annual air savings, worth thousands of pounds, are possible, when the leaks are located and repaired. High-pressure air, expanding to atmosphere, creates high frequency turbulence that the ULD converts into an audible tone, heard through the detector's headphones. Background plant noise is filtered out using the three sensitivity settings X1, X10 and X100, along with an "on/off" thumb wheel for fine sensitivity. As the ULD moves closer to a leak, more LEDs on the display light to confirm the source of the leak. A parabola attachment to pinpoint leaks and a tubular extension, to mask out intense background noise, are also provided. Testing the various unions, pipes, valves and fittings of a complete installation can be done, quickly and effectively, at distances up to 6 m away.
