Sumitomo introduces Sumiboron BN2000 uncoated universal grade

  • Sumiboron BN2000 uncoated universal CBN grade Sumitomo Electric Hardmetal
Sumitomo's has introduced Sumiboron BN2000, which is described as a low cost uncoated universal grade of Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) suitable for turning in a wide variety of low batch production applications.

Sumitomo claims the Sumiboron BN2000 cutting material's improved resistance to high heat generated at the cutting point has been achieved by enhancing the purity of the ceramic binder, making it less prone to degradation. This gives it unprecedented levels of wear and chipping resistance at the cutting edge. Optimising the chemical composition of the sintered grade to balance wear and chipping resistance enables stable machining in both continuous or light to medium interrupted cutting.

The BN2000 line up includes a sharp edged type (LT) for finishing and a tough edged type (HS) for more demanding operations which, together with a wide range of nose radii, allow users to choose from 259 different configurations of this insert to meet their precise demands.
