Software offers consistent form grinding

  • Software offers consistent form grinding
Walter's Form Tool Compensation (FTC) software for users its tool grinders and measuring machines allows users to consistently produce batches of form tool profiles to within microns after first-off tool inspection.

Available from Körber Schleifring UK of Honiley near Kenilworth, the innovative FTC facility is compatible with the latest generation Walter Helicheck inspection machines and Walter Helitronic grinders.

The FTC software resides on the measuring machine and operates in conjunction with the grinders' Package 7 machining program for the cost-effective production of profile cutters and rotating tools.

A full profile scan (rather than selected points) of the first-off tool is inspected and any variation in profile contour is calculated via DXF (AutoCAD drawing exchange format) comparison. The FTC system then automatically calculates corrective action and produces a DCW (draft choice for Windows) file for feedback to the grinder.

Subsequent tool forms - which can also be scanned and supplied with printout - are then guaranteed to be within microns of specification.
