Rotary spindle system extends EDM applications

  • Rotary spindle system extends EDM applications
The Hirschmann H80R.MNC rotating and indexing spindle extends the range of applications for EDM rotary axis technology.

Previously rotary axes were introduced to support the accurate machining of small round workpieces on Wire-cut EDM machines, but this model combines high a precision rotating spindle and an NC-controlled dividing table.

With a rotating speed of up to 1,000 RPM, an indexing accuracy of ± 5", and a radial run-out of < 0,003 mm, prior to the launch of the H80R.MNC, rotationally symmetrical workpieces needed to be machined on a rotating spindle, then transferred, clamped and re-aligned on a dividing table, to allow the machining of angular features. The Hirschmann's rotating/indexing spindle H80R.MNC brings the two operations together.

The H80R.MNC is equipped with a manual or pneumatic Hirschmann chuck. Connected to this standard interface is a newly patented, adjustable clamping element that can be used alongside the conventional collet chuck. Using this arrangement allows workpieces up to 20 mm diameter to be clamped, while radial run-out and concentricity can be adjusted easily to a value of < 0,001mm. The introduction of a presetting spindle means that components can be set-up off-line, while the machine is in operation, leading to an increase in machining hours.
