Robot is small, easy to program

R. A. Rodriguez’s Universal Robot is a small, light weight industrial robot arm that has six axes of movement and, above all, is exceptionally quick and easy to install.

A specially developed graphical user interface means no expert programming is needed. Within a couple of hours it can be ready to run.

Universal Robot can benefit virtually every manufacturer and really comes into its own where traditional robots are considered to be too large, too expensive, too noisy or not sufficiently flexible. It is the ideal entry-level automation device, which can be set up by anyone and operates from a standard 240V electrical supply.

The Universal Robot weighs just 18 kg and can be easily moved around, requiring no dedicated base. As a result, it can automate a variety of tasks in the production environment for which reprogramming is quickly achieved via a 12 inch touch-sensitive screen. It has a working radius of 85 cm, can handle a payload of 5 kg and its joints can rotate at up to 180° a second; repeatability is ±0.1 mm.

Unlike other robots, it consumes little power, typically less than 200 W when using an average programme. It also generates much less noise than larger, more complex robots. With a footprint of just 149 mm diameter, the Universal Robot is supplied with an electrical interface that is compatible with most industrial sensors and PLCs.
