Mitsui Seiki tilt-spindle 5-axis HMC now available from 2D CNC

Mitsui Seiki’s newly developed HU100-TS 5-axis horizontal machining centre is built to produce large, hard-metal components that are better suited for tilt-spindle processing than trunnion table machines. Available in the UK via 2D CNC Machinery, the fixed table and tilting-head arrangement of the HU100-TS facilitates the production of heavier, bigger parts and permits the use of shorter, more rigid tooling. The machine is said to offer rigidity and accuracy when machining tough materials such as titanium and Inconel.

On the horizontal table of the HU-100TS, workpieces can be accommodated measuring up to 1,900 mm long and 1,250 mm in diameter, and weighing up to 2,000 kg. The X, Y and Z-axis travels are 1,300, 1,500 and 1,400 mm respectively, with B-axis rotation of 360˚ and A-axis rotation of -30˚ to +120˚. A compact footprint is provided of 5,530 by 8,431 mm, making it similar to that of its 4-axis equivalent.

The column width and length/height ratio of the HU100-TS are engineered to maximise stability in heavy machining. An HSK-A100 taper spindle provides up to 150 kW of power and 1,508 Nm of torque. The standard automatic tool changer has capacity for 60 tools (180 optional), up to 500 mm in length. Maximum tool diameter is 125 mm; tools stored without adjacent tools can be up to 216 mm in diameter.
