Mitsubishi EA12-V die-sink EDM

The EA12-V die-sink EDM system fitted with the new FP80V generator is an all-round machine with high levels of technology such as a 64 bit CNC control system featuring a 100 MB NC programme memory and combining the advantages of NC control with the functionality and user comfort of a PC. Its space-saving design reduces floor space requirements by up to 20 per cent.

Work tank dimensions are 850 by 600 by 350 mm, with x, y and z travels of 400 by 300 by 300 mm. Maximum electrode weight is 50 kg.

For beginners the system offers easy operation and programming at a PC level. Mitsubishi's ESPER software features, providing automatic programme generation using artificial intelligence - processing parameters are selected automatically using simple specifications.

The EA12-V features: 'FUZZY PRO 2', for efficient processing of large surfaces and finishing is supported; 'Optimum Jump' and 'Expert Rip' to ensure high processing speeds; automatic acquisition of processing surface data and optimum generator settings to create the finest surfaces by using Mitsubishi’s 'Satin Finishing' process.

The machine boasts other novelties such as a 'high flow' mode for the die-electric system which instantly flushes away sludge and a 'fluid conditioning' mode to bring workpieces and fixture up to the temperature of the die-electric to support highest accuracy machining.

The machine won a distinguished JSIM award presented by the Japan Society of Industrial Machinery Manufacturers at the 35th Machine Industry Design Award.
