Iscar’s Cut-Grip N-type chip breaker advantage now available for ID grooving

  • Iscar grooving inserts Cut-Grip N-type chip breaker
The N-type chip breaker feature of Iscar's Cut-Grip inserts that has proven effective for the OD turning of problematic metals is now available on ID grooving and turning inserts.

In OD grooving applications tier one suppliers of various automotive steel parts report that the N-type chip breaker reliably breaks up chips at feedrates as low as 0.05 mm/rev, says Iscar. The company adds that by switching from a J-type to an N-type chip former, a well-known producer of pinion gears manufactured from 4340-like steel virtually doubled both hourly output and tool life, while completely eliminating a previous chip disposal problem.

The expanded Iscar Cut-Grip range includes double-ended GINI inserts for both ID turning and ID grooving and new sizes of GIMN 302 inserts in grade IC907. The inserts are available for diameters down to 22 mm.
