Cognex introduces wireless barcode reader with Ethernet

  • Cognex wireless barcode reader
Cognex has introduced a wireless version reader for its rugged DataMan handheld industrial ID scanner, the Dataman 8000 series. The series is designed for the shopfloor and uses powerful 1DMax and 2DMax algorithms which, says the company, enable it to read virtually every type of code, every time and with fast read rates – regardless of size, quality, printing method or surface.

The communication module has Cognex Connect capabilities permits extended range – up to 100 m – cord-free code reading. Cognex Connect communicates via industrial protocols such as EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, MC Protocol and others, and also offers traditional support for USB and RS232. The reader also has a large memory capacity for reading codes when offline or out of range. The base station for the wireless version is equipped with separate communication ports for USB, RS232 and Ethernet options making it the most versatile choice in the series.

The wireless communication system's modular design allows any reader to switch between corded RS232/USB communication to Industrial Ethernet or to wireless with field exchangeable interface modules.

The DataMan 8000 series is available in two base models. DataMan 8500 readers incorporate Cognex patented UltraLight technology, which provides dark field, bright field and diffuse lighting all in one electronically controlled light for superior image formation on any mark type and surface.

The DataMan 8100 includes all of the features of the DataMan 8500 readers, with bright field illumination. They are suitable for applications that require superior code reading performance without special lighting.

The DataMan 8000 series also offers liquid lens variable focus technology which allows a user to read small 2D direct part marks (DPM) as well as long linear 1D barcodes with a single reader.
