Brother S2DN mill/drill/tap machining centre offers BT40 challenging 92 Nm of torque

  • Brother mill drill tap machining centre
The Brother S2DN High Torque mill/drill/tap machining centre, available through UK agent Whitehouse Machine Tools, combines the cutting power associated with a BT40 machine with Brother speed and productivity.

In a comparative trials with a BT40 cutting a carbon steel workpiece, the Brother HT used 59% less power, consumed 80% less air and was 45% faster, it is reported. The trial involved: 10 mm end mill side cutting/18 mm deep; 40 mm U drill with no pilot hole; and 63 mm dia face milling 3 mm deep.

The three bed sizes in the range, designated SD2N, S2DN and S2DN-0, offer an XYZ work area of 500 by 400 by 300 mm (or 700 by 400 by 300 mm for the long bed version).

The 26.2 kW, 10,000 rpm spindle has 92 Nm maximum torque and rapid traverse rate of 50 m/min. The machine has 21-tool capacity magazine and the ATC gives a tool change time of 1.4 sec cut to cut.
