Ball-nose cutters for complex profiles in steels up to 56 Rc

A series of ball-nose milling tools and grade combinations for roughing complex profiles in cast iron, steels, and hardened tool steels to 56 HRC. The 5505VX twin-edge, indexable carbide insert tools are also capable of semi-finishing passes owing to their rigidity and accuracy of assembly. Tolerance on the rotation of the tool axis is just 0.05 mm. To cope with the high impact forces and heat generated when roughing hard materials, the inserts are extra-thick and have a variable edge condition, with heavy preparation around the radius where impacts are at a maximum. The helical ground form allows elevated spindle speeds and feed rates to be used, promoting short cycle times and high productivity. Inserts are offered in two grade choices: SC3025 for machining cast and nodular irons; and X400 (patent pending) which is a new carbide for cutting hardened (52HRC – 56HRC) and tool steels. Tools are available in a range of inch and metric diameters, with Weldon or Morse taper shanks.
