Yorky grinder makes a comeback

Broadbent Stanley and GAC Engineering Group have together acquired the Yorky range of oilfield and rubber roll grinders, following the demise of Yorkshire Machine Tools.

Full design and manufacturing rights along with all patents have been acquired for the machines, which includes both the Type 0 and the Type R, the latter being a new development which never saw light of day due to Yorkshire Machine Tools’ demise.

The Yorky Type O designed specifically for the oilfield and petrochem markets, while the Type R is a variation targeted at rubber coated roll manufacturers.

The Type 0 is available in either manual, semi-automatic or full CNC versions, and its large capacity allows for the grinding of stabilisers up to 12ft (3,657mm) long by 42” (1,066mm) diameter. All types of cutting tools, hydroclean bars, fishing tools, mills, reamers, drill pipe up to 40ft (12 m) along with all day-to-day grinding requirements can be satisfied. It features a 12.2’ (310 mm) spindle bore as standard, allowing oil pipes etc to pass directly through the workhead centre.

The first public viewing of the Yorky “Type O” since Broadbent Stanley & GAC took over the manufacturing rights will be in parallel with the TOG 2008 exhibition in Tripoli, Libya, from October 21 – 23 at the Dolphin Oil Facility.

The new Type R (indicating rubber roll machine) is a full CNC, heavy duty grinding machine with a swing over the slides of 49” (1,244mm) by 80” (2,032mm) between centres and a maximum component weight of 6,600 lbs (3000 kg). Optional bed lengths of up to 36 ft (11 m) are also available.
