Heidenhain DRO technology and more supports WorldSkills 2011

Digital readout systems as well as linear and rotary encoders from Heidenhain (GB) will be demonstrating their powerful yet easy-to-use functionality at WorldSkills 2011, the world's largest international skills competition, featuring 1,000 competitors from over 53 countries.

In addition to the array of Heidenhain Acu-Rite 200S and Heidenhain ND 780 DROs fitted to the 28 machines provided by Official Supplier RK International for the Mould Making Skills, Manufacturing Team Challenge and Polymechanics/Automation skill competitions, Heidenhain linear and rotary encoder technology will also be featured in the special 'Have a Go' areas planned for London's ExCeL in October.

WorldSkills 2011is expected to attract around 150,000 visitors who will also be able to attempt a wide range of skills in the dedicated 'Have a Go' displays manned by experts.

While a Hiedenhain rotary encoder will demonstrate the accuracy of positioning to one second of arc – 1/3,600 of a degree - the company's linear encoder technology will use a comparison to a human hair to highlight measurement and positioning to micron accuracies.

Meanwhile, competitors will be capitalising on the powerful yet easy-to-use functionality of the DROs being supplied by Heidenhain (GB):

[] The Acu-Rite 200S will feature on manual centre lathes and demonstrate its constant cutting speed functionality. The machine operator can specify an optimum surface speed and this is maintained as the cross-slide moves in and out from the component centreline.

[] The ND 780 DRO is an up to 3-axis system that can be used on mills, drills and borers as well as turning machines. Functions include 10-datum memory, 16-tool library, distance-to-go display with nominal position input in absolute or incremental vales, scaling factor and mm/inch switching. Also, pocket calculator, cutting data and taper calculations are provided.
